about

In a letter reflecting on her love of language and writing, Virginia Woolf once wrote, “…what rhythm is…goes far deeper than words. A sight, an emotion, creates this wave in the mind, long before it makes words to fit it”.

I liked Woolf’s description of language, because it challenged a belief I’d had growing up with my head in books: the belief I would always be able to find language for everything.

When something in the world sparks a particular wave of emotion - a place, an object, a situation, a detail, a person - I usually don’t have the words yet to capture it.

However, I hope I at least have a camera.
